What:
Stonerose Interpretive Center and Eocene Fossil Site, located in Republic, WA, offers a chance to find your own fossils, as well as view the fossils found in this area. Staff members are present to explain any fossils you find, and give tips on splitting the rocks.
The main season is May - Oct depending on the weather. Check their website for hours and fees (the only real fee is for chisel/hammer rental- about $3)

Where:
Republic Washington. Take 395 North to Chewelah and then on to Colville and go onto Kettle Falls. Then go over the bridge over the beautiful Columbia River going west on Hwy 20. This takes you over Sherman Pass which is a breathtakingly beautiful view.
Stonerose Interpretive Center is located at 15-1 N. Kean Street, on the corner of Kean Street and Highway 20 W., across from the city park.
Cautions:
While there is a covered picnic table to split your rocks, you will want to bring sunscreen and water.
